Red Bus Tour – Glacier NP

Red Bus Tour – Glacier NP

Had some challenges getting internet as I am traveling across Montana. Anyway took the red bus tour of Glacier National Park on my last day. Had such a good time taking the yellow bus in Yellowstone decided to do it again. I took the full day tour, 9 to 5, sounds like a song. So lets start with the name of the road that goes through the park, Going For the Sun Road. Most of the mountain names come from the Blackfeet Indians. Going-to-the-Sun Mountain is a 9,647-foot mountain peak, the Sun is one the most important gods to the Blackfeet, and the majestic mountain looks like it reaches the sun, this is basically where the name comes from.

We started out at the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier which was the first hotel built in 1913. Pretty impressive inside and out, it is a real log cabin 🙂 Anyway, the driver is also the narrator for the entire trip. He talked about the history of the park, the geology of the park, the animals, basically anything you wanted to know about the park. So I was able to sit back and enjoy the day, and since I was by myself, I got to ride shotgun. If you ever visit any of the national parks, investigate these bus tours, they are fantastic. We had lunch at the Lake McDonald Lodge which was built in 1913 as direct competition to the hotels on the east side of the park. I was lucky the last couple days with the weather, winds from the west, but today, the winds were calm, so the smoke from Canada was present on the east side of the park. A little tidbit of information, did you know groups of Aspen trees share the same root ball, the trees will all be the same size. Enjoy the pictures and videos.
