Well I couldn’t leave Montana with a stop at Little Bighorn. Everyone knows the story, not much I can add. It was good that they changed the name from Custer Battlefield National Monument. In the end it was not a heroic battle for the US.
There was a fire at the site many years ago and archeologists found more evidence to support alternative stories of what happen that day. As you tour the site, there will be grave markers through out of soldiers and Indians. There is also a national cemetery here with graves of soldiers from other wars. It is a somber site in my mind, so much death happened here on both sides. The one thing that really stood out was how large the battle field was, it must have been chaotic that day as the battle raged on.
