Glacier National Park – Part 1

Glacier National Park – Part 1

Well it has been a while since my last post. I have to say, I think Montana has eclipse Colorado as my favorite state. Now, I am at Glacier National Park and It is now the top park I have visited so far, Yosemite is now in 2nd place. The park is unique in part that there are sections and they don’t connect with other sections. Example, East Glacier is next to the park entrance of Two Medicine, but you can only see this area from that entrance. They are serious about bears here, you will get a lecture whether you did anything wrong or not. In Yellowstone, they let you know the rules, but here it is a 5-10 minute talk about food storage and grill storage, plus you are required to have bear spray with you. I understand there concern, I have seen many times people being idiots at other places. You are at the top of the world here, water from the mountain streams will end up in 3 places, Pacific Ocean, Hudson Bay and Gulf of Mexico, that’s a pretty cool fact. And Glacier lakes and streams are so clear and emerald blue in color, just stunning.

The only 2 sections that connect are Apgar(West Glacier), Lake McDonald area and St Mary’s(East Entrance) by way of the Sun road. I stayed in Apgar, west Glacier, this is the busiest part of the park, I think mainly because of the towns and businesses just outside the park. In Apgar, can rent cabins on the lake, hotel, rent bikes and kayaks. Allot more here than at St Mary, but I think St Mary is a more beautiful area, just appears remote. Anyway, took a long hike today to a couple of waterfalls, think I hiked about 4 miles and up and down about 900 feet of elevation, not to bad for my age. For some reason when I am in nature, I can just walk and walk, but I am feeling it this evening.
