I stopped at the Oklahoma City National Memorial. The memorial was created in response the federal building bombing in 1995 by Timothy McVeigh. 168 people lost their lives at 8:02am on April 19th. It was a very solemn experience going through the memorial and museum, almost felt like you are in church, everybody is quiet or whispering. I think someone would need to be heartless to not be effected by this place.
The museum has all the evidence used in the trial. McVeigh’s car, all the bits that belong to the uhaul truck and all the pieces of information used to document his every move prior to the bombing. McVeigh was only found guilty of the murder of 12 federal employees, the US didn’t have a terrorism law on the books yet. But that was enough to give him the death sentence. The memorial was created by the survivors, The chairs in the field signify each person who died and has their name on the chair, each row equals the floor they were on. The shorter chairs are the children, 19 lost their lives that day. They light up at night. 8:01 = Peace, 8:03 = recovery .
