I was planning on checking out the Dr Pepper museum in Waco TX, but there must have been some event going on, a line a block long, so now plan B. Didn’t really have a plan B, so just started searching on my GPS. First up is this 1928 Gulf gas station. Two brothers bought an old gas station to work on their cars and decided to restore the gas station to it’s original look. It cannot actually pump gas, but everything else is correct for that period of time. A perfect work shop for a couple of car guys.
Then I found Roadside America that sounded interesting. The owner actually gave me a tour. He has been collecting stuff since he was a kid and now he is around my age. There was a little bit of everything, from the Warner bros comic characters, fast food places such as McDonald’s to Big Boy. Allot of memorabilia that would make those American Pickers envious. The cars he built himself except for one, he was a mechanic. The weirdest thing in his collection is the original casket of the Big Bopper. His grave was moved about 20 years ago and they used a new casket, so the original one ended up here. Since this is Texas, he had a signed guitar from Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Been to Waco but didn’t know about this! Super interesting!
