St Augustine Lighthouse

St Augustine Lighthouse

The St. Augustine Lighthouse is located on Anastasia island. The current lighthouse is on the north end of the island and was finished in 1874. This is the second lighthouse, the first one was built in 1824 and was Florida’s first lighthouse, but erosion brought it down. Today the remnants of the first lighthouse is a submerged archaeological site.

The lighthouse is still operational and privately owned by St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum. The tour also included model ships and there is actually a wooden boat building shop on site. The walk up to top is 219 steps, about 14 stories and I made it! Lighthouses are the original stair master.
