Fountain of Youth

Fountain of Youth

Today I decided to check out the Fountain of Youth, yes it was a little cheesy, but still had some history. In 1513 Juan Ponce de León established the first colony in North America, he called it La Florida. The fountain of Youth today is just a trickling spring, but it was their fresh water source when the colony was established. There is a bit of history of Spanish explores to central America and South America. This area is an actual archaeological site and they determined where the original mission church once stood. From old documents they created a replica of this church.

Now the Peacocks that roam around, they are some very cool birds and being able to see them up close was a bonus. This area was once home to the Timucua Indians and there are reproductions of what their huts would have looked like and information on how they lived.
