USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park

On my way to Gulf Shores I stop in Mobile, AL to tour the USS Alabama battleship and the USS Drum Submarine, both from World War II. It was amazing seeing this in person. We all have seen movies or seen pictures of submarines and battleships from WWII, but seeing in person really brings perspective. First in the submarine, it is tight, how a crew lived on this sub for months at a time is amazing. The doors between compartments are only 3 foot tall, I got pretty good going through the doorways by then end. I was hard to take pictures since everything is so close together.

The battleship was huge, those 16 inch guns and how it took a small team to operate them was so interesting. It is a small city on the ship, jail, barber shop, mail, laundry, kitchen, etc. Anyway, if you have a chance to tour this battleship or any other, take the tour, you might be surprised.
