The Grand Tetons park was once made up of ranches and other communities, unlike Yellowstone that was all unclaimed land. JD Rockefeller Jr, starting buying up the land from the ranchers and other people to preserve the land and donated 33,000 acres to the government.
Jackson Lake is a natural lake and part of the Snake river which starts in Yellowstone. In the early 1900’s they added a dam to raise the lake 39 feet. Unfortunately today it is back down to its original size because of similar reasons that is happening to the Colorado River, demand and climate change. The river runs all the way to the Columbia river, then to the Pacific ocean.
So much beauty here, incredible nature and having the mountain range always in view. Went to the Cunningham cabin that was established in 1880. Then on to Mormon Row, a settlement in the early 1900’s. Hiked various trails along the Snake river, all flat 🙂 Then a church established in 1930. Very good day, just so much beauty.
The last two pictures are chokecherries that are very attractive to Bears this time of year as they feed to prepare for hibernation. They are actually edible, but I didn’t try them
