Bad Lands, New Mexico

Bad Lands, New Mexico

My trip out west is a little different from previous travels, I am basically free styling, I don’t always know where I will stay each day. I read allot and I will write down 2-3 places that might work, but don’t know until I arrive. Can be a little unnerving, but also can be exciting. Angel Peak was one of those great surprises and I hope for more. First I am focusing on BLM land, this is federal land open for use to camp, but there are no facilities, basically a parking spot in the middle of no where. Sometimes there will be tables, fire rings, pit toilet and/or garbage cans, but no guarantee, so you except the minimum, anything else is a bonus.

Well this site was one of those I did not know what to expect. I was about 5 miles of the road, there were a couple times I thought of turning around, but glad I didn’t. When I finally found it, I was just OMG! The site is just west of the continental divide at 7000 feet looking over the canyon area. While there are Badlands on SD and ND, I think most of us think of badlands to be South Dakota. The term badlands refers to the difficulty traversing such landscapes. Anyway this was one those fantastic spots with a million dollar view. 10,000 acres of rugged terrain. Hope I find more on my travels.
