I stopped in Lawton OK to visit the Museum of the Great Plains and the Comanche National Museum, these places are actually next door, but not connected. The Great Plains museum, I was expecting more on the old history, but was more of an overview of initial settlement to today. They were in the process of building a replica of the 2nd trading post established in the early 1800’s in the area. As for the Comanche Museum, they had more art, and more items to read. I did enjoy the art.
In the Great Plains museum they had this one presentation about tornadoes which was pretty interesting. You were in a room, looked like you were down in a cellar. It was a point of view presentation of the tornadoes of 1978 one of which destroyed Wichita Falls. That was entertaining, allot of the museum was more directed to interactive children displays, which were pretty nice. Well off to the Wichita Mountains for the evening.
