I had an interesting day today, I visited Fredericksburg. First it is a lovely town with a strong German heritage. On my drive there I went through what I would call the wine country of Texas, there must be dozens and dozens of wineries in the area. My first stop was the National Museum of the Pacific War. They originally wanted the museum to be about Admiral Nimitz, but he wanted it to be about all the military, focusing on the WW2 battles with Japan. Fredericksburg was Admiral Nimitz home town. The museum did a fantastic job with how they presented every aspect of the Pacific theater of WW2.
Next stop was the Pioneer Museum on the history of Fredericksburg. I learned something today, a Sunday house. When Fredericksburg was originally founded in 1846, each family or single man was given 10 acres of land outside of town to farm and a small lot in town. The family would build a small house in town, it was called the Sunday House, since they would have a place to stay when they came into town. It was nice tour, but I am starting to feel old when I see items on display that I remember from my childhood.
I knew you would like the WW11 museum.! Looks like you are still having fun!
Yes, staggering my way up to Oklahoma.
