First, if you are not traveling near or through, there is no reason to ever go to Beaumont TX. It was a struggle to find anything worth seeing. This area was the center of the universe over a 100 years ago when the first gusher of the Spindletop Oil came in. This was the center of the oil universe in the early 1900’s.
On the property of Lamar University they have a model town of Gadys City, Spindletop. The buildings are re-creations of the type of buildings that made up the city in 1901. Had allot period items in all the buildings, was a bit interesting. I also toured the Fire museum of Texas, was a small collection, the old trucks were pretty cool. Then the last thing I went to was Cattail Marsh, this is a combination city park that is part of a marsh, a wildlife refuge. Was a nice walk, did see some small gators, birds and one big gator.
