‘Mako Shika’ – No Good Land to the Sioux. That’s what the term the Indians used for this area, the Badlands of North Dakota. Some saw opportunity, like Teddy Roosevelt, ranching. Before Teddy became president or lead the Rough Riders, he came out to North Dakota and learn to be a cowboy. He loved the area and even bought 2 ranches. Today this area is a national park in his honor. Right by entrance to the south entrance was this Cowboy Hall of Fame museum, so I thought I check it out. Well the bar was raised so high by the Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City, nothing can compare. It was a small museum, had the normal sections, cowboy, Indian and Rodeo, but nothing really impressive.
The park has 2 sections, north and south with separate entrances. I decided just to tour the south. It was a nice scenic drive, but the smoke from Canada made the skies hazy. There are buffalo roaming around and I guess there are many people who never seen one before since they stop in the middle of the road in amazement. I ran into wild horses crossing the road. But, those Prairie Dogs were pretty interesting, I have read about them but first time seeing them in person. The prairie dogs blended in well they were hard to see in a picture, but there were hundreds of these mounds around and can see them looking around. Kinda funny, reminded me of the game Wack a Mole, maybe the inventor of this game visited the park, mole sounds better than Wack a Prairie Dog. The park is by this small town called Medora so I stopped by this western bar for a little something to eat, pig wings which is from the lower shank of a young pig, they were so good, tasted like ribs.
