Yellowstone River/Canyon

Yellowstone River/Canyon

After this mornings 5 hour wildlife tour, time to move on. Next best thing is are the Canyons and waterfalls along the Yellowstone river. Many trails and lookout points.

Well, one of my first stops was hiking down to to the top of one of the falls. Well this is an example of not reading the fine print. I stopped at this site, the sign showed the trail to the top of the falls is .4 miles. Ok, I go for it. Well should have read the rest. It was a .4 mile trail, But it drops 600 feet and has 12 switch backs. That is literally 2 football fields down and up. I did not know on the way down, and half the way down I figured wtf, I am already on my way. Well the walk up you find out not only that you are old and out of shape, but not acclimated to 7800 feet elevation, the thin air. Met and talk with many people on the way back up. Yes, it was worth it, and I needed the exercise. Boy paid for it later. Guess I learn to read the fine print in the future 🙂 Stopped and took other trails, but more level.
