I ended up spending a few days around the Badlands to get some work done. First, Wall South Dakota, yes I have seen the Wall Drug advertisement for ever. Well I went into town one afternoon and it just didn’t live up to the hype. Mostly shops connected together selling trinkets. Yes, there is some quirky things like the jackolope, but thats it. I ended up camping in the Badlands, on the rim. They have dozens of spots and its free, fantastic views. I also tried to stop at the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site but they were closed 🙁
I found out that the term ‘Badlands’ was first used for this area. This is a lovely park, enjoyed my drive and small walks. Some parts of the park remind more of northern New Mexico. This area was created by a volcano and was under water at one time based of the fossils and bones that have been found. The park is still an active sight for archeology. Did not see much wildlife, one ram high up a mountain and one deer at a distance. After I left the park I stopped at a Prairie Homestead, was interesting, part of the home/cabin is in the ground.
